Effects of Unhealthy Eating Habits

More or less the human body is a machine; like any machine body also needs some fuel to work. But, only the sufficient fuel is not all, the quality of the fuel is also important for a good performance. For human body, food is the fuel on which it runs. To make your body give the best performance, satisfying your hunger is not all. It is important that you consume a healthy food. The unhealthy food you eat may lead to several minor health problems or some major breakdowns in your body. Not only unhealthy food but also the unhealthy food habits play a big role in the major health problems.

Effects of Unhealthy Eating Habits
In today’s fast paced life many people don't care whether their diet is healthy or not. They eat the unhealthy food from some pizza house or road side stalls. Most fast food is full of saturated fat, fatty acids, sugar and salt and contributes to numerous health problems. There are many reasons behind eating this type of food like easy availability, low cost and even ignorance. Many of us are not aware about the risks of consuming junk food. Unhealthy eating habits bring shortage of healthy minerals and vitamins in your body and your health status decreases gradually. All the functioning of stomach disturb, if you adopt bad eating habits. It can lead to heart problems, stroke, diabetes, cancer, gallbladder disease, skin problems, pregnancy complications, fatty liver diseases, high cholesterol, multiple sclerosis, memory loss, menstrual irregularities, poor sex drive, osteoporosis, hair fall, oral problems and much more.

Chocolate contains Theobromine, which is a bitter alkaloid from cacao plant. It can lead to chronic disorders.


Coffee is a natural contraceptive. Coffee-addicted people may have reproduction problems. And when served with whipped cream or flavored syrup, it adds hundreds of extra calories to our diet. We should moderate our coffee habits and try to avoid the extra treat.

Junk food:

Junk food has become a tradition in the youngsters these days. They love to eat pizza, burger, pasta, sandwich, etc. They do not know or may not care much about the side effects of this mouth watering food. It can lead to problems like constipation, obesity and diabetes. Instead we should develop a habit of eating fruits of our choice.

Artificial sweeteners:

When on a diet we generally avoid sugar and use some artificial sweeteners instead. These artificial sweeteners “trick” our brain so we feel less satisfied and consume more calories. Also, we add chemicals in our body. So, it is not good in any way.


Even a modest use of alcohol is enough to injure body and brain cells. Chemicals present in alcohol severely harm the body. In fact most of the suicides are related to alcohol.

Some of the unhealthy food habits include

Eating in a hurry:

When we eat in a hurry, we are not able to chew our food properly. This leads to acid reflux. We should try to take at least 20 minutes for eating the food as it is the time our brain receives the message that we’re satiated. So we should eat slowly and enjoy the meal.

Skipping breakfast:

It is a very common problem with most of us. Many times when we are getting late for our schools, colleges or offices we skip our breakfast. This makes our body slow down to preserve energy and store calories that affects the metabolism and the ability to concentrate. We may eat more at lunch or dinner which results in overweight or obesity. So we should have our breakfast within 2 hours after waking up.


Many times when we get our favorite dish, we tend to eat too much. Also sometimes we get extra food in our plate and while trying not to waste it we overeat. It is better to throw the leftovers or put them in the refrigerator for the next day. We should try to eat less and learn to recognize the signs of being satisfied.

Under eating:

Many people are really diet conscious. They stick on a typical diet plan to stay fit. While following a diet plan sometimes they start starving. Hence the body does not get enough nutrition. This can be extremely harmful for health.

A healthy eating habit means you will live a longer and healthier life. Unhealthy eating habits may harm you in many ways. They can result in many serious health problems, especially if they are not tackled in early stages. We should make small but steady changes in our unhealthy eating habits. This will not only improve our health, but also get about universal well-being. Eating healthy is the best way to stay happy and healthy.
