Recipes of Indian Masala Dhosa: Indian Dish you should try before die

Dosa is one of the well-known dishes in India. It is a common street food & breakfast that is rich in carbohydrates and contains no sugar or saturated fats. Dosa is the staple food of South Indian states like Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. Likewise, Masala Dosa is a type of Dosa that is made by stuffing potatoes, fried onions and spices into a plain Dosa. It was ranked 49 in the World's 50 most delicious foods. 1, Simple Masala Dosa

Ingredeints


For Dosa:
  • 1/2 cup of urad dal
  • 1 1/2 cups of rice
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil
For Stuffing:
  • 3 large Potatoes
  • 1 medium sized Onion
  • 3-4 Green chilies
  • 1 strand of Curry Leaves
  • 1/4 teaspoon of Mustard seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon of Chana dal
  • 1/4 teaspoon of Turmeric powder
  • 1/4 cup of Green Peas
  • Handful of coriander leaves
Method for making the Masala stuffing

First, boil the potatoes and mash them. Heat the oil in a pan and put some mustard seeds. Then, add curry leaves, sliced onion and green chillies. Add some turmeric into it and fry until the onion turns transparent. Add 1/2 cup of water and salt to taste. Allow it to boil. Add the mashed potatoes and green peas into it and let it cook for 2 minutes. Sprinkle some coriander leaves on top of it.

Method to prepare

Pour a spoonful of batter on the hot dosa griddle and spread it in circular motion. Add drops of oil on top of it. Cook the dosa from both the sides. Once the dosa is cooked, add the masala in the center and the dish is ready to serve.


2, Paper masala dosa

Ingredeints

For the Batter:
  • 3 cups of Boiled Rice
  • 1 tsp of Fenugreek Seeds
  • 1/2 cup of Urad Dal
  • Salt to taste
For the Masala:
  • 1/2 kg of Potato
  • 100 gms of Green Peas
  • 200 gms chopped Tomatoes
  • 2 chopped Carrot
  • 2 chopped Onion
  • 3 Green Chillies
  • 4 Cloves
  • 2 big Cardamom
  • A piece of Cinnamon
  • A small piece of Ginger
  • 4 to 5 flakes of Garlic
  • Coriander Leaves chopped
  • 1/4 tsp of Fennel Seeds
  • 1/4 tsp of Turmeric Powder
  • 50 gms of Cashewnuts
  • 1/2 cup of Oil
  • 1/4 tsp of Garam Masala Powder
  • Salt to taste
Method to prepare

First soak the rice and urad dal for 3 hours. Then, grind them separately. Mix both the batter with salt and leave it for 4 to 5 hours. Boil the potatoes and mash them Then grind the garlic, ginger, cardamom, fennel seeds, cinnamon, green chilli and a piece of onion. Fry the onion until it turns brown. Pour some oil into the pan and put the masala into it. Then add some pieces of carrot, green peas and tomato. Pour 1/2 cup of water. Add salt and turmeric powder. Add the fried onions and mashed potatoes when the masala starts boiling. Then add 1/4 teaspoon of garam masala powder. Take another pan, pour some ghee. Then fry & mix the cashewnuts with the masala. Heat a pan and spread a teaspoon of oil in the pan. Pour a spoonful of batter in round shape and cook both the sides in low flame. Place the masala in the centre and the dish is ready to serve.

3, Baby Corn Masala Dosa

Ingredients

Dosa Batter:
  • 3 Baby corns
  • 1/ 2 tsp of Chilli powder
  • 1/2 tsp of Coriander powder
  • 1 medium sized onion
  • 1 medium sized tomatoes
  • 1 tsp of Oil
  • Salt to taste
Method to prepare

Cut the onion, tomatoes and baby corns into rings. Heat the pan with oil and cook the onions till they turn brown. Then, add tomatoes along with chilli, salt and coriander powder. Cook the baby corn pieces for 5 minutes and make sure they are coated with masala. Heat the pan and spread the oil when it’s hot. Pour a spoonful of dosa batter and cook both the sides. Put the baby corn masala in the centre and pack it like a napkin. Serve the Baby Corn Masala Dosa with chutney or sambhar or you can have it just like that.

4, Rava Masala Dosa

Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup of Maida
  • 1 cup of Rava/Semolina
  • 1 cup of Rice Flour
  • 1 teaspoon of red chilli powder
  • 2 Green chillies
  • 1 spoon of chopped ginger
  • 1 teaspoon of cumin
  • 6 cups of water
  • 1 sprig of curry leaves
  • 1/2 cup of onion
  • Salt as per taste
  • Oil
Method to prepare

Take a bowl and add flour, rava and maida and mix it. Then add green chillies, salt, jeera (cumin), curry leaves and ginger into it. Add 2 cups of water and make sure that lumps are not formed while mixing. Then, add the remaining 4 cups of water to make it looser. Take a pan and put some finely chopped onion into it. Then, sprinkle the batter just like water instead of pouring it. Add oil in the edges of the dosa. Place the masala in the centre as the dosa turns crispy and brown. Then fold the dosa and allow it to cook for sometime. Rava masala dosa is ready to serve.
