Generally, acute pain does not last for more than 6 months and it vanishes on treating or healing the underlying cause of pain. At the same time if the acute pain is not treated, it might lead to chronic pain. And the chronic pain can remain active for several weeks, months or years. Common chronic pain includes low back pain, cancer pain, arthiritis pain, headache, etc.
