Fresh foods you should never keep in the refrigerator

When your mother comes back from the grocery store, she starts to differentiate all fruits and vegetables at one side. From all those food items, your mother will put some of them in refrigerator and others in kitchen at room temperature. Have you ever thought or questioned your mother that why she doesn’t put all veggies in the refrigerator? So, let’s finish your curiosity about why every food is not stored in refrigerator. Some of the foods are needed to store in natural moderate temperature to increase its life and they do not need refrigerated temperature. Let’s find out the reason that why some of the veggies and fruits are needed to store in room temperature?

Fresh foods that you can store at room temperature

Tomatoes:
Tomatoes do not need to be put in refrigerator. Storing tomatoes in refrigerator effects on the ripping process and dilutes its taste. Real tart taste of tomatoes gets disturbed in cold temperature of refrigerator. In the moderated room temperature, tomatoes can stay fresh and edible for week long period. If you want to keep your tomatoes in refrigerator, then take out them from refrigerator before one hour to improve taste.



Potatoes: Cold and dark environment of refrigerator is not considered to be good for potatoes. They already have long shelf life without refrigeration, so it is all ok if you store them outside refrigerator in cool and dry place. If you put potatoes in refrigerator, it will make skin of potatoes darker and starch gets converted into the sugar. So, when you bake refrigerated potatoes, it will taste sweet and mushy. You should keep potatoes wrapped in paper so that it can breathe easily and chances of decaying become less with respect to storing in plastic bag.

Herbs: Freshly harvested herbs stays in better condition when stored in natural environment rather than refrigerator. Some herbs need natural light to complete their shelf life instead of dark and cold surrounding of refrigerator. If you put any green veggies into the refrigerator, then it will become wilt prematurely.

Citrus fruits: Chilling of refrigerator causes damage to all citrus fruits such as lemons, limes, oranges etc. Excess chillness of refrigerator disturbs the ripening process of fruits. Putting citrus fruits into the refrigerator will make outer skin of fruits hard and dry. It also causes dark spots on skin and fruit becomes tasteless.

Cucumbers: More than 3 days in constant cold environment also effects negatively on cucumber. Chillness of refrigerator will induce wateriness, pitted and damage skin that causes early decay of cucumber. So only buy required quantity and use it as early as possible. Or store it in room temperature for longer shelf life.

Onion and Garlic: Strong flavor and smell veggies like garlic and onion is also advised to put out of the refrigerator. If you put garlic or onion in refrigerator, then it will become soft and moldy due to low temperature. Plus, it also makes other food products stored in refrigerator contaminated with its odor. Even sometimes onion and garlic undergoes the sprouting process if stored in refrigerator. So keep onions and garlic into the cool place outside the refrigerator.

Winter Squash: Winter squash is also advised to put out of the refrigerator. This fruit does well when temperature is around 50-60 degrees. So do not try to store them in completely opposite atmosphere of 20-30 degrees of refrigerator. Store them in cold and dark place of your kitchen.

Apples: Apples can easily stay fresh and edible for one or more weeks at room temperature. If you put apples in refrigerator, then outer skin of apple will get wrinkles and become dry. It will also make it taste little weird.

Berries: Berries do not require to be refrigerating, if you have freshly packed. To store them at room temperature, just make sure that you store berries without washing. Only wash it at the time you want to eat. If you wash berries and want to keep it, then you should have to put them into the refrigerator.

Apricots, Bananas, Kiwi, Peaches, Plums and Mangoes: All these seasonal fruits do not need any kind of refrigeration. Put them in room temperature to complete their ripping process. Even its nutrients stay in the better form if left in natural environment.

Pumpkin: Pumpkin does not require any kind of chilling refrigeration to increase shelf life. Refrigeration stops its ripping process and it might decay it early. So, it is advised to put pumpkin in well ventilated cool and dry place to make shelf life longer.

Whole melons: Melons lose their natural antioxidants when you put them into the refrigerator. Besides antioxidants, it also shed off minerals and become useless one. So, never store whole melons in the refrigerator. Keep them in cool and dry place in your kitchen.

Bread: Not in one or two countries but people around all continents refrigerate bread. They assume it will make bread to stay fresh and edible for long time period. On the contradiction, putting bread in refrigerator will make it start rotting early. It also becomes very dry and rusty with weird taste. Store your bread at room temperature by wrapping into the newspaper.

Honey: Many people conserve honey in the refrigerator. But do you know honey is the only edible food that does not rotten ever? So, it is not at all necessary to store in refrigerator. By refrigerating, it will be thicken more also its crystalline process will be started that definitely decrease its taste. You should store honey in normal temperature.

Oils: Several kind of edible oils do not need to be stored into the refrigerator. If you refrigerate them, then it will make it cloudy. So, never ever do disastrous decision of storing oils in refrigerator.

Basil: Basil glooms perfectly in sunny environment. If you want to store it, then put them in the glass of water to store. It is not at all necessary to store them into the refrigerator. It will make them dry faster and tasteless in one single day of chilling refrigeration.

Coffee: You must not store your coffee in the refrigerator. Coffee beans or open box of coffee must be stored outside the refrigerator at room temperature. Coffee felt with wateriness and spread its smell everywhere in the refrigerator and everything in the refrigerator will taste you same as coffee.
